Promoting better
air quality
in Sussex

What is air pollution?
Air pollution is the contamination of the air around us. This could be indoor or outdoor, through chemicals and particles that can harm the health of humans, animals, plants and buildings. In the UK, pollution is mainly caused by the way we travel with the burning of fossil fuels.
About Sussex Air
Set up in 2000, the Sussex Air Quality Partnership is made up of all 15 local authorities across East and West Sussex.
The partners meet four times a year to discuss air quality policy and practice, ultimately working together to improve air quality and health in Sussex. The partnership is currently hosted by East Sussex County Council and chaired jointly by Adur & Worthing District Council and Lewes & Eastbourne Councils.
Air pollution in my area
In general, the quality of air across Sussex is good. However, pollution caused by vehicles and heating systems in built up areas remains a problem. Busy junctions and places where vehicles regularly queue in traffic are hotspots for air pollution.
Air pollution impacts everyone’s health. There’s lots we can all do to reduce air pollution.
