Mid Sussex – Air Quality Reports

Local Authorities are required to assess and report every year to the government on the air quality in their local area. The reports must assess whether the statutory health-based objectives are being met. Where the objectives are not being met a Local Authority has to produce an Air Quality Action Plan to improve local air quality.

Mid Sussex District Council: Review and Assessment Summary

Air quality monitoring and modelling carried out by Mid Sussex District Council indicated that despite good air quality within most of the District, the air quality objectives for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) were not being met in the Stonepound Crossroads area of Hassocks due to the topography and volume of road traffic. Therefore, in March 2012 an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) was declared at Stonepound Crossroads. Monitoring results since then have shown a longer term decrease in the Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)levels within the AQMA and across the district.
